This training is designed for persons conducting a business or the like, including Bodies Corporate, to meet their obligations under the Model Work Health and Safety Regulations 2011 to protect workers from the hazards of asbestos in the workplace by way of re-assessing the Asbestos Register and current condition of the asbestos within the workplace.

This training is designed for persons conducting a business or the like, including Bodies Corporate, to meet their obligations under the Model Work Health and Safety Regulations 2011 to protect workers from the hazards of asbestos in the workplace by way of re-assessing the Asbestos Register and current condition of the asbestos within the workplace.

Under Section 426 of the Model Work Health and Safety Regulations that came into effect on 1 January 2012, a person conducting a business or undertaking, and Bodies Corporate must A person with management or control of a workplace must ensure an asbestos register is reviewed and where necessary revised by a competent person if:

  • the asbestos management plan is reviewed
  • further asbestos or ACM is identified at the workplace
  • asbestos is removed from or disturbed, sealed or enclosed at the workplace

The Register must be review at least every 5 years, or in accordance with the recommendations given by the competent person who prepared the Asbestos Register.

The Asbestos Re-assessment Training Course is designed to give workers an overview of the legislation and specific training in the Asbestos Register, Asbestos Management Plan and the control measures taken at the workplace. It references the actual Asbestos Register and Asbestos Management Plan for the individual workplace.

On completion of the training the workers will be able to conduct a non invasive visual assessment of the current condition of the asbestos on site.  The training is NOT intended to take the place of a competent person conducting the re-assessment, but only to allow workers to conduct a general re-assessment on a much more regular basis in between the formal assessments by the competent person.

This training includes the following topics:

  • purpose of the training
  • persons conducting a business or undertaking and the worker’s roles and responsibilities under the asbestos management plan
  • how to understand the information contained in the asbestos register
  • how to visually assess the current condition of the asbestos materials on site
  • how to read and understand the Asbestos Management Plan

This training is more general than the training that a worker undertaking asbestos removal work would receive. Workers who are undertaking licensed asbestos removal work are required to complete specific units of competency.
